“Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, …” Matt 28:18-19.

Focus on the Commander

We know this passage as the Great Commission, but for the most part our focus is on the command rather than on the Commander. Generally, when we are commanded to do something we delay or find excuses not to do it; and when we are commanded not to do something, we become restless until we do it.

Focusing on the command partially explains why 80% of Christians do not share their faith. When we focus on the Commander, Jesus Christ, and get to know Him personally, our love and admiration of Him will cause us to talk about Him to everyone, anywhere and anytime. Secondly, when we recognize how lost and dead in sin we were and what it cost Christ to save us, our love and appreciation of Him will compel us to live for Him and do whatever He commands us to do with great joy.

The One who gave us the Great Commission is the One that has all authority in heaven and on earth; He is the Wonderful Counselor, Might God, Everlasting Father (Is. 9:6); He is the Creator of all things (John 1:1-5, Col. 1:15-16). He is our Father, our Savior, our Lord, our Friend, etc. Let us focus on the Commander and responding to the Command which is the Great Commission will be a delightful daily experience. Amen!
