Profile

ECWA Hospital Egbe, commonly referred to as Egbe Hospital, is located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. Founded in 1952 by SIM missionaries, it was later transferred to ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), the Nigerian mission agency affiliated with SIM. Egbe Hospital is a rural teaching hospital serving a large population in Kogi State.

The hospital is a 75-bed facility, and the grounds cover 33 acres with 68 buildings. Each year the hospital cares for approximately 18,500 outpatients and 2,000 inpatients, performs more than 600 operations, delivers some 400 babies, and conducts over 33,400 X-rays and lab tests while sharing the Gospel with all who come to the hospital.
There are six main wards in the hospital: male ward, female ward, children’s ward, maternity ward, isolation ward, and OPD (out-patient department which includes ICU and Emergency. There is also an operating theater with 2 operating rooms, a recovery room, and consultation area. Two private rooms are available for VIP guests.

Departments include outpatient, eye center, radiology (including ultrasound), laboratory, pharmacy, and under-fives clinic. In addition to the services delivered on the wards and various departments, the hospital provides antenatal care, family planning, immunization, pastoral counseling, and HIV/tuberculosis screening, treatment, and counseling. A fully equipped new dental clinic with 4 dental chairs staffed by a dental hygienist and visiting dentists offers dental services. The newly upgraded Eye Center with new equipment provides optometrist services in clinic and an outreach, with a visiting national ophthalmologist.

The hospital also offers a Mobile Health Clinic that provides outreach to surrounding poor communities with high health care needs. These outreaches take place during the dry season when roads are passable.
There are three different centers for education on the campus: the Family Medicine Residency Program, ECWA School of Nursing, and ECWA School of Midwifery. The School of Nursing and Midwifery is moving toward becoming a college by 2023. It is undergoing revitalization to include the construction of 3 hostels (2 girl hostels each with 24 rooms and one male hostel with 12 rooms), an administrative building with study hall, dining hall, kitchen and laundry, matron’s housing, and a sports field. Buildings on the existing school campus will be remodeled for classrooms and staff housing.

ECWA Hospital, Egbe currently has 120 staff including medical, administrative, maintenance staff, one family medicine consultant, five family medicine resident consultants, and two medical officers.
A strong Christian emphasis, including evangelism and Biblical teaching, has been maintained from the onset and is currently administered by two trained pastors. We desire to further develop our community outreach and evangelism.
