PROJECTS & NEEDS (UPDATED 23/02/2012)

 

  1. Road Network with drainage, landscaping and walkways, estimated at N100 m.

Phase 1: From Expressway to gate (a) up to primary layer – N45 m

                                                      (b) to complete work – N25 m

Phase 2: From gate to include internal roads – N20 m

                  Landscaping and drainage – N10 m

2a. ICT Centre with furniture and equipment – estimated to cost N70 m, drainage, landscaping, water and alternative power supply.

2b. Fibre-optic connection from expressway to campus and intra-campus – N50 m

  1. Ambulance (bus type) for University Health Clinic – N8 m
  2. Water tanker or A tractor with water tanker and grass cutting accessories preferred – N8 m

6a. Office complex of College of Health Sciences, with furniture, office complex, water and power supply (public and alternative) – estimated to cost N100 m

6b. Clinical students’ hostel accommodation for 120 students at Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BHUTH), Jos. Drainage, landscaping, water and alternative power supply. Architectural drawings available. Estimated cost N150 m

6c- Mini-library upgrading for the college of Health Sciences at BHUTH, Jos campus – N8 m

6d- 300 Theatre Gowns for medical Students

7 a Three Additional classrooms for clinical students

7 b. Common room for clinical students in Jos and male students at Karu

  1. 3 Nos New laboratories in Faculty of Science (each for 160 students) and 2 Nos for College of Health Sciences (each for 160 students), including furniture & equipment. One lab in College of Health Sciences at Karu to be designated instrument lab with assorted equipment, e.g. Atomic absorption spectrophotometer, HPLC, etc. Drainage, landscaping, water supply and alternative power supply for labs also essential. Also Echocardiography machines, Electrocardiographic machines (ECG), Electroencephalographic machines (EEG), 24-hr Holter ECG ambulatory machines with analyser, 24-hr blood pressure monitoring machines with analyser for Clinic at Karu and Teaching Hospital at Jos.
  2. 2 Nos Lecture theatre – 600-capacity – estimated to cost N70 m each, with drainage, landscaping, water and alternative power supply.
  3. Standard Central University Library construction (first phase to sit 1000 readers {phase 1}, to go up to 2,000 sitting capacity in 2nd phase), furnishing and equipping, landscaping, water and alternative power supply.
  4. University Teaching Hospital at Karu permanent site, including furniture, equipment, water and electricity supply by PHCN and alternative power supply. Estimated cost N1800 m
  5. More staff quarters – storey buildings each with 4-6 nos of 3-4 bedroom units, with drainage, landscaping, water, power supply, furniture.
  6. Office spaces at BHUTH, Jos for College staff. Estimated cost – N50 m
  7. Perimeter Campus Fencing or planting three rows of selected trees along perimeter with barbed wires linking trees. Fencing of male students’ hostel. Initial phase to cost N98 m
  8. Administrative block (Senate building), including furniture and office equipment, drainage, landscaping, water & power supply.
  9. Athletics track, 2 lawn tennis courts, two football fields, two basket ball courts, a swimming pool, a cricket field, etc and In-door sports complex.
  10. 2 Nos Students’ hostel blocks – storey buildings, each with 300 bed spaces with common room, furniture, drainage, landscaping, water and alternative power supply.
  11. A shopping mall with 6 shops and a bookshop.
  12. A cafeteria with 600 sitting capacity, furniture, drainage, landscaping, water and power supply at Karu campus.
  13. Econometric laboratory to contain 40 computers, computer soft wares, furniture, drainage, landscaping, water and alternative power supply.
  14. A 500 KVA alternative electric power generating set.
  15. Protective roofs for generators on campus.
  16. Multipurpose hall – 2000 capacity with furniture, PAS, drainage, landscaping, water and alternative power supply. Completion of the 2500-capacity chapel/multipurpose hall under construction at N85 m

 

Other Needs

A. Staff

  1. College of Health Sciences Staff Needs & Development:  1 assistant lecturer + 1 lecturer. II in each of pharmacology, chem. path, haematology, histopathology, medical microbiology, 10 nos Lecturers I in community medicine, 4 Nos Senior Lecturers and one Professor in each of internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology and paediatrics.

2 nos Professors, 4 nos senior lecturers and 10 Nos of Lecturers I & II in each of anatomy, biochemistry and physiology depts.

  1. Registry Dept. – 2 Deputy Registrars, other registry staff (including 18 porters for Student Affairs Div), horticulturist and secretaries for depts.
  2. University Library – 10 Librarians and Library officers of different cadres for main and branch libraries; 2 System Engineers/Librarians; 10 Library Assistants and 4 library porters.
  3. Bursary Dept – A bursar and 2 more qualified accountants needed
  4. Directorate of Physical Planning & Development – Building/Structural/Civil Engineer & Architect
  5. Chaplaincy – University Chaplain.
  6. Vice-Chancellor’s office: Public Relations and Publicity Officer, 1 Auditor, Fund Mobilization Officer
  7. Security – 20 more security personnel, security uniforms and kits, walkie talkies, CCTV.
  8. Students’ Affairs Directorate – 8 more registry staff
  9. Directorate of Academic Planning – Statistician

B. Floor tiling and complete painting of College of Health Sciences and Faculty of Science buildings and bungalow houses.

C. Chemicals & Reagents

List available for Depts. of Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, Medical Microbiology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Microbiology (science)

ii. 1 No car for each of Provost and 4 Deans, Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Bursar, University Librarian, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Director of Academic Planning, Fund Mobilization Officer, Public Relations & Publicity Officer, University Chaplain

iii. 40-seater bus for the Chaplaincy

F. Borehole for new chapel and clinical site at BHUTH, Jos.

The University has had 7 academic sessions of Phase 1 development and is now going through the 8th session. During this phase the College of Health Sciences (with two faculties), Faculty of Humanities, Social and Management Sciences and Faculty of Science and Technology have run programs in the various faculties.

In Phase 2 of our development due to start in about 3 years, the University is to run programs in Faculties of Law, Environmental Sciences and Agriculture. Each of these faculties needs a block of six class rooms with 6-8 offices to start with.
